Rice moves back to Mazda design team after 13 years in BMW
Kevin Rice rejoins Mazda’s European R&D Center in Oberursel, Germany as the brand’s creative director. His return is aimed to further develop the ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design language.
He is a graduate of Transportation Design at Coventry University. He initially developed his skills at Italdesign in Italy, and Opel in Germany.
Rice became a senior designer for Mazda from 1995 to 2000. His contributions influenced Mazda models like the RX-8 and the ‘Neospace’ show car displayed at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show. After his initial stint with Mazda, he moved to BMW and stayed there for 13 years. While with the German brand, he supervised the exterior development of models like the new 3 Series and 4 Series.
“I’m delighted to be here as part of a family guided by a convention-defying approach to designing and building cars that people crave to own. I’ve made it my personal challenge to reinforce the competitive edge of our KODO-inspired models and build upon the Mazda brand’s positive momentum,” said Rice.
