Audi drops the top in 2017 A5, S5 Cabriolet
The new 2017 Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet recently made its official debut. Bigger yet lighter than the outgoing model, the A5 completes the new generation of the A5 family.
The new A5 Cabriolet features a sleek line design previously applied on the Coupe. The rear window is now flatter, emphasizing its sporty looks. With a length of 4,673 mm, the new A5 is 47 mm longer than the predecessor model.
At the front, the car is equipped with a wider and flatter three-dimensional single-frame grille. It also has a wave-shaped shoulder line, which is a hallmark styling feature of the entire A5 family; while the pronounced bulges over the wheel arches accentuate the quattro DNA. At the rear, horizontal lines emphasize the width of the new Audi A5 Cabriolet.
Audi said that the new A5 is the stiffest in its class and yet is among the lighter in the segment, with a total weight reduced by up to 40 kg. The front-wheel-drive A5 Cabriolet rated at 193 PS 2.0 TDI weighs 1,690 kg.
Inside,the wheelbase is extended by 14 mm while the shoulder room in the front row of seats has been increased by 26 mm and the kneeroom in the rear by 18 mm. As an option, it also features an ambient lighting with 30 adjustable colors creates a fitting mood for the interior.
With the trunk closed, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 380 liters. The rear seat also has a 50:50 split and can be easily folded forward using levers in the luggage compartment. As standard the tailgate on the A5 Cabriolet now opens automatically using a remote control key or the button in the driver’s door. It is also equipped with a proximity sensor.
The German automaker offers the new A5 in three engines including: 2.0 TFSI with 252 PS, 2.0 TDI with 190 PS, and a 3.0 TDI with 218 PS. Following the market introduction, a 2.0 TFSI with 190 PS and a 3.0 TDI with 286 PS will join the lineup. Meanwhile, the Audi S5 Cabriolet features a new six-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 359 PS and 500 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the six-speed manual transmission, seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission or eight-speed tiptronic – tailor-made drivetrain technology is available for every engine version. The drive is provided as standard via the front wheels; quattro drive with ultra technology and permanent all-wheel drive are available as options. The latter comes as standard for the 3.0TDI with 286 PS.
