Lexus upgrades crossover lineup with the 2016 RX
Lexus Manila Inc. has just unveiled the all-new RX crossover at their recently renovated Bonifacio Global City showroom in Taguig City. First revealed at the 2015 New York Auto Show, the RX arrives in the Philippines in RX350, RX350 F-Sport and RX450h trims.
The RX350 is all new for 2016, with a new platform, updated engine and new technologies. In line with Lexus' design language, the spindle grill remains and draws many of its cues from the compact NX. The luxury crossover adapts a more sloped roofline and its third window is pinched to make the car appear more dynamic.
At the front, the spindle grill is bolder and wider than its predecessor and the headlights are more rakish and aggressive. At the back, wraparound LED tailights embrace the rear with the center of the tailgate resembling the spindle grill up front. There are two exterior lines available for the new RX; the standard model, and the F-Sport. The F-Sport has a more aggressive front grill design, a deeper chin spoiler and 20 inch wheels.
In the interior and technology front, the RX gets a bigger display for its infotainment system. Like most Lexus models, the infotainment system can be controlled via the center mouse-like device, similar to that seen in the IS compact executive sedan and ES mid-size executive sedan. Exclusive to the 450h is a new Touchless Power Tailgate function. With it, users can open the rear tailgate by just placing their hand on the Lexus emblem.
The dash, on the other hand, is trimmed with high-quality leather and wood, with soft contact points wherever your hands go. Moving to the back, the second row seats split 60:40 and have the ability to fold with a push of a button, to ease the task of folding the seats.
Opt for the F-Sport model and you get custom F-Sport gauges with TFT Multi Information Display. The sport steering wheel comes with with paddle shifters, and an F-Sport logo by the base.
Over to its powertrain, both the RX350 and RX350 F-Sport run a direct injection 2GR-FKS 3.5 liter V6 that puts out 291 PS at 6,300 rpm along with 360 Nm of torque available at 4,700 rpm. The two models are mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
Over to the RX450h, it is driven by a reengineered direct injection 2GR-FXS 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain. It has a combined output of 308 PS at 6,000 rpm and a torque rating of 335 Nm readily available at 4,600 rpm. Power is then transferred to a Continuosly Variable Transmission.
Available colors for the 2016 RX include: Graphite Black, Amber Crystal Shine, Deep Blue Mica, Sonic Quartz, Titanium Red Mica and White Nova. All exterior finishes feature a highly-scratch resistant coating that can also restore itself via a high-performance macromolecular polymer.
