Honda says farewell to fourth-gen Civic Type R with Black Edition
The FK2 Civic Type R will soon be saying goodbye and Honda UK decided to give the car a very special send-off. Limited to only 100 units, the Honda Civic Black Edition commemorates the last few Type Rs designed and built for the UK market.
The exterior pretty much looks the same as standard Type Rs but the limited Black Edition does feature red accents on the rear wing and front chin spoiler and dark 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35 tires. Beyond that, the signature taillights, quad exhaust pipes and sleek headlights still deliver a very aggressive tone for the FK2 Type R.
The cabin, on the other hand is predominanty finished in red and black, with the former acting as a stark contrast to the dark hue. As it gets the GT package, features like front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and power folding door mirrors come as standard equipment on the Black Edition. It is then topped by the familiar machined-alloy gear knob.
Delivering power to the front wheels is the Earth Dreams 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that is married to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine generates 310 PS at 6500 rpm along with 400 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. 0 – 100 km/h comes in at a quick 5.7 seconds while top speed is rated at 270 km/h.
“There are only going to be 2,500 of the current Civic Type Rs on UK roads, so the car is going to be pretty special as it is – but with the addition of this special limited run of 100 Black Editions to the product line up and owners will have a real collectors piece on their hands,” said Phil Webb, head of cars at Honda UK.
Production of the FK2 Civic Type has officially stopped at the Swindon plant as the company is prepping to begin production of the new FC Civic soon. The next-gen Civic Type R is set to hit dealerships by mid-2017.
The 2017 Honda Civic Type R Black Edition is already on its way to UK dealerships.
