Toyota is expecting to further boost their sales on the compact SUV segment with the introduction of their fourth generation RAV4 model which was teased earlier and was officially unveiled during the opening day of the currently ongoing LA Auto Show 2012.

The RAV4, which stands for Recreational Active Vehicle 4(WD) have gone past three generations and have sold more than 4.5 million worldwide since its introduction in 1994. Toyota made sure to keep the fundamental design elements(space and versatility) consistently relevant to the previous models throughout its evolution.

The new RAV4 has been redesigned from the ground up, it is now slightly bigger than its predecessor by over 205mm longer and 30mm wider but is lower by 25mm for extra comfort and improved dynamic capabilities. The tailgate, for the first time, is now top-hinged and comes with an integrated roof spoiler.

The engine line-up for the new RAV4 in western Europe includes a 149bhp 2.0-liter petrol engine, a new 122bhp 2.0-liter, and a 148bhp 2.2-liter diesel engine. The range has been selected to give the new model an unmatched balance of front and all-wheel drive performance with class-leading CO2 emissions across the board.

As well as providing a more comfortable and focused driving position, the new RAV4 builds on its SUV attributes with retuned suspension, revised electric power steering, and an Integrated Dynamic Drive System that comes with a new Sport mode.
