Mazda MX-5 based Fiat 124 Spider debuts at LA Auto Show
What do you get when you integrate some Italian styling to a Japanese car? Well, you better check out Fiat's newest roadster – the 124 Spider. The Fiat 124 Spider made its world debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, based on the architecture of the Mazda MX-5. The Fiat's exterior design and engine are different, however.
For its skin, the Italian automaker says the vehicle took design cues from the original 124 Spider, which was produced in 1966. Up front, the 2017 124 Spider has rounded headlights integrated with LED daytime running lights and a hexagonal grill. The rear is equipped with a large bumper, horizontal LED taillights and dual exhaust pipes.
The interior of the 124 Spider looks similar to the 2016 MX-5, as evidenced by the dashboard, gauges, center console and infotainment system.
The 124 Spider is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that delivers 162 PS and 249 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
