LTFRB expands 1342 hotline display to TNVS like Uber, GrabCar image

Uber, other online transport groups must show LTFRB hotline on body

After the alleged September 24 pipe-wielding incident involving an Uber driver and a prospective passenger, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced that all public utility vehicles (PUVs) including Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) units, of which Uber and other online transport groups are members, must have the LTFRB’s hotline ‘1342’ marked on the vehicle's body at all times.

“If we really want to protect the riding public, TNVS should also have the hotline (number) on the body of their unit very visible. The marking should be in the body, 24 hours a day. There must be no special treatment,” said LTFRB board member Atty. Ariel Inton.

The LTFRB has yet to make it official with the Memorandum Circular to mandate all PUVs to mark their units with the LTFRB hotline but Atty. Inton said the agency is already working on it.

‘1342’ was officially launched by the LTFRB mid-September to replace the various numbers the agency uses depending on their location in the country. The new hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
