LTO aware of Facebook page selling fake driver's license

As the Land Transportation Office (LTO) struggles to cope with the demand for the issuance of cards from driver's license renewals, malicious groups have taken advantage of the situation and are offering professional driver's licenses for only Php 1,500 and claims that these are issued by the LTO Central Office no less.

The Facebook account is 'Iloilo BMX' and the post was put up by user 'Trendisitas Trendsandmore.'

LTO spokesperson Jason Salvador vehemently denied any connection with the agency. "It's not from us. We will instruct our people in that region to look into it. We do not tolerate this and we are investigating it. We are pleading to the public that if you know anything about this, don't tolerate it. Report to us directly so we can investigate it," Salvador said.

Legit 'cards' have various built-in security features that differentiate it from the fake ones including watermarks and the colors used but the most important is being listed in the LTO's database.

Carrying a fake driver's license carries a fine of Php 3,000 and a one-year license eligibility suspension based on the DOTC and LTO JAO-2014-01.
