Mahindra e20 plus revealed as brand's mini electric vehicle

After teasing the motoring public last October with several teaser images, the Indian auto giant has officially revealed the e20 plus EV. The company billed their newest model as a smart city car that can outsmart the chaos of the city streets with its emissions-free powertrain and very compact dimensions.

Measuring in at 3,590mm long, 1,575mm wide and 1,585mm tall, the e20 plus is indeed a small car. Despite of that, Mahindra said the e20 plus can easily seat four thanks to its 2,258mm wheelbase.

In terms of design, the e20 blends smooth shapes with boxy character lines. The front fascia gets the brand's signature grill that is flanked by sleek headlights. Flared wheel arches, five-spoke alloy wheels and C-pillar mounted rear door handles are seen on the side of the e20 plus. It is then topped off by a tailgate-mounted spoiler and vertical taillights.

Mahindra also said that the body panels used on the e20 plus are unique as they are made from multi-layered composites that already come with the paint. This eliminates the need for a paint shop and makes for faster production. They even went on to say that they are dust and scratch resistant and easily buff out.

Inside, fabric seats come as standard as well as a three-spoke steering wheel. High-grade models will even come with touchscreeen infotainment with a reverse camera. Air-conditioning, power windows, digital instrument panel and a 2-speaker audio system complete the interior package for the e20 plus.

At the heart of the e20 plus are 3-phase AC induction motors. Depending on the model, the motors can generate either 26 PS at 3500 rpm with 70 Nm at 1000 rpm, or 41 PS at 3500 rpm with 91 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both models carry a 210AH lithium-ion battery pack while a Direct Drive gearbox sends power to the pavement. Top speed on both models are at 80 km/h and 85 km/ respectively. Meanwhile, maximum range are at 110 km and 140 km accordingly.
