Mahindra joins the compact SUV fray with the KUV100
A new compact SUV from India officially debuts after Mahindra recently took the wraps off of the KUV100. Made for the “kool and trendy generation of youth”, the ‘Kool Utility Vehicle’ sets to make a new model category with its uniquely-done exterior and all-new engine lineup.
“We are all set to create a new segment with the launch of the KUV100, which also marks our foray into ground-up petrol engines. An ambitious project from the very start, the KUV100, is all set to carve its niche amongst first time car buyers with its unique propositions. I am confident that the KUV100, like its predecessors, will become an extremely popular brand and will be cited for taking Mahindra to a whole new orbit,” said Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
Starting with the front fascia, it gets sleek wraparound headlights, signature Mahindra grill design and a distinct hood. Over to the side, streaks of character lines, flared wheel arches and a sloping roofline can be seen. Completing it all is a set of 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 185/65 tires.
Images and details of the SUV’s rear and interior were not provided but the company did say it will have a 3+3 seating layout. On the safety side, it will come standard with dual front airbags, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).
Powering the KUV100 will be the all-new mFalcon engine lineup that will be available in either gasoline or diesel power. First is the 1.2-liter G80 motor that puts out 82 PS and 114 Nm of torque. Those that prefer an oil burner can opt for the 1.2-liter turbocharged D75 diesel engine which produces 77 PS and 189 Nm of torque. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels.
