First four units go to each of the areas that were heavily flooded
After suffering through traffic-paralyzing floods in the recent extreme monsoon rains, the local government of Makati held a meeting with the DPWH and business owners to address the situation. The decision, ‘purchase mobile pumps.’
The initial four will be stationed at the areas that went underwater last Tuesday after strong rains stranding motorists and commuters alike and prompting several netizens to dub parts of Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue as ‘Sea of Buendia.’
These pumps will be deployed to Magallanes, Buendia, Ayala Tunnel and Chino Roces Avenue.
Mayor Binay hopes that the frequent maintenance and de-clogging of Makati’s waterways and the clearing of illegal structures and informal settlers from Tripa de Gallina creek will effectively allow it to draw all the excess water on the streets during heavy rains and prevent further flooding.
The mayor did however admit that the recurring floods could be party attributed to the clogged drainages leading out of the city and beyond Makati’s boundaries.
