Introducing new style with the soul of a sports car

Mazda Philippines held the simultaneous unveiling of both Mazda CX-7 and the 2010 CX-9 to inject a fresh dose of fun to its vehicle lineup.

"With Mazda's reputation of providing cars that bring a greater pride of ownership and style, we are proud to unveil today not one, but a pair of globally acclaimed sport crossovers - the Mazda CX-7 and CX-9, that blends the athletic attributes of a sports car with those of a SUV carrying with it advanced emotional styling, outstanding features and exceptional handling," said Steven Tan, Vice President for Marketing and Sales, Mazda Philippines.

Mazda adds fun DNA to the compact crossover segment with the new CX-7 combining style and comfort to replace the Tribute. The CX-7 is made from a new platform combining the MPV and the Mazda 5 giving it a longer wheelbase measuring at 2750mm, and unparalleled comfort compared to offerings from other brands.

The Mazda CX-7's exterior styling centers off its large five-point grille highlighting the new Mazda family face. The dynamic styling flows all throughout the vehicle while the tapered side windows and its 17" aluminum alloys give heightened expectation to the Mazda CX-7's performance.

The interior of the Mazda CX-7 is all about style and comfort. The center panel's dark gray metallic tone conveys a sense of composed refinement. The door trim, door and grab handles' finishes speak of sleekness. Reclining seats are made of leather and headrests are adjustable.

Under the hood is the same MZR 2.5 liter engine found in the Mazda 6 slightly detuned to produce a maximum torque of 205 Nm at 5,000rpm and a maximum output of 163ps (161hp) at 6,000rpm. This is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with a wide gear range that allows plenty of torque even at low revs, assuring the driver of sporty handling and a superb driving performance.

The CX-7 is equipped with class leading safety features starting with dual front, side, and curtain airbags. The list continues on with ABS, EBD, DSC (Stability Control), and TCS (Traction Control), while a remote keyless entry with alarm system adds peace of mind while your car is parked.

Mazda Philippines has embellished the Mazda CX-9 with significant exterior and interior facelifts. The new front end is unmistakably Mazda, with its elegantly sculpted sporty five-point grille and wide, bold bumper. A horizontal streak of chrome floats on the front grille bar, giving a distinctive and high-quality feel. The unique, trapezoid, dual chrome exhaust pipes accentuate the fine detail put into the design. Wrapped from front to rear with subtle design cues that express the "embodiment of motion," the exterior of the latest CX-9 is sleek and sophisticated.

Under the hood is a 3.7-liter V6 engine, capable of 277ps (273hp) at 6,250rpm and a torque curve rising strongly from 3,000 to 6,000rpm, peaking at 367Nm at 4,250rpm. To combine excellent acceleration and outstanding mileage, the new Mazda CX-9 includes an Aisin-supplied six-speed Sport AT automatic transmission with manual mode as standard equipment. Broad ratios maximize flexibility by providing enthusiastic launch acceleration with quiet cruising.

Further contributing to CX-9's excellent drivability is Mazda's Active Torque Split All-Wheel Drive, which rapidly adjusts to changing traction needs by monitoring wheel slippage, steering angle, yaw rate, lateral acceleration and available driveline torque.

The CX-9's safety features are highlighted by an advanced Roll Stability Control (RSC) system that uses both body-roll rate and wheel speed sensors to determine when corrective action is necessary. The system is assisted by ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, DSC and TCS. All this is housed in a robust unibody which uses the Mazda Advanced Impact-energy Distribution and Absorption System (MAIDAS) to help protect its cabin from deformation in the event of a collision.

New equipment for the CX-9 includes a redesigned front and rear climate control system; 4.3-inch LCD equipped entertainment system with a CD-changer, auxiliary input and iPod connectivity, the LCD screen also doubles as a display for the new back-up monitor system equipped with a wide-angle camera. It is also equipped with 20-inch aluminum wheels, HID headlamps, and electric front-seats.

The new Mazda CX-7 is tagged at Php1,495,000 while the updated Mazda CX-9 is priced at Php2,899,000.
