Made-to-order upgrades optimize aero performance and adds aesthetic value.
McLaren Special Operations (MSO), which handles customizations for McLaren Automotive, has released images of the MSO 650S Coupe Concept. Designed and engineered by MSO for the 650S Coupe and the 650S Spider, it showcases the available upgrades that will improve the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency and give it a more aggressive and commanding presence.
The concept unit that will tour China over the coming weeks comes with a a newly designed carbon fiber rear diffuser and MSO-branded carbon fiber side blades.
Possessing a ‘stealth-like, menacing appearance’, the MSO 650S Coupe Concept has a ‘Agrigan Black’ finish, which is handsome combination of metallic black with hints of deep ruby red metallic.
It has lightweight carbon fiber accents on the front splitter and air intakes, which works perfectly with the more aggressive-looking carbon fiber side blades that offer better airflow along the edges and the unique MSO ear diffuser.
The whole package sits on a set of special satin black finished lightweight ‘650S’ alloy wheels wearing Pirelli P Zero™ Corsa tires.
The customized cockpit sports fixed-back carbon fiber racing seats, which takes after the design found in the McLaren P1™ and are 15kg lighter.
Currently a one-off project, the MSO 650S Coupe Concept is MSO’s way of gauging the public’s interest in this form of customization to see the feasibility of taking it a step further.
Since these upgrades can fit the McLaren 12C models, retailers are selling the MSO side blades and rear diffuser at £5,114 and £7,245 respectively.
