New nine-speed automatic transmission equipped in Mercedes Benz E 350 BlueTEC

The Mercedes Benz E 350 BlueTEC is set to become one of the most fuel-efficient 6-cylinder diesel models in its class – all thanks to the 9G-TRONIC.

The 9G-TRONIC will be the first nine-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter. The transmission provides easy shifting while its direct control system enables short, unnoticeable gear changes. The torque converter reinforces the outstanding drive comfort, and the extended gear ratio spread allows higher speeds at lower engine speeds. Imagine running at 120km/h in 9th gear with an engine speed of about 1350rpm.

Equipped in the E 350 BlueTEC for Saloon and Estate models, the transmission improves the performance of the 252PS V6 diesel engine by reducing the NEDC fuel consumption of the E-Class to 5.3 liters of diesel per 100km and a C02 emission of 138 g/km. It also reduces engine speed which improves comfort and cuts down external noise by up to 4 dB.

The transmission is suitable for rear-wheel and all-wheel drives also hybrids. The benefits of this new automatic transmission will be passed on to customers at no extra cost. It will be launched in the market by September 2013.
