Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the 2015 S63 AMG Coupe 4MATIC. It is the German automaker's latest addition to the AMG luxury segment and makes use of the company's latest tech.
It makes use of the the AMG Lightweight Performance construction, giving it a curb weight of 2122 kg, 58 kg lighter than the previously generation even though it has a higher output rating and equipped with more standard equipment. The weight reduction was made possible with the use of aluminum for the outer skin and front section of the car and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. Further reducing the weight of the car are 2 optional equipments, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimized AMG high performance composite braking system.
The front end features a 3-dimensional twin-blade radiator grill finished in matte silver while down below, the splitter is also finished in matte silver, providing better airflow. The motorsport design of the front splitter also reduces front axle lift and balances the vehicle's aerodynamic balance. The side sill panels also get the matte silver finish and is accented by a lower feature line, which gives the car a sense of movement even while at a standstill.
At the rear, the diffuser is finished in high gloss black and housed within it are twin chrome exhaust pipes with sport flaps. A rear apron assumes the role of a spoiler lip and completing it all is the ' S 63 AMG' badging that sits just below the taillights.
Aboard the car, a lavish and intricately designed interior greets the driver and passengers. A notable feature of the car is the instrument panel that almost seamlessly transits towards the doors in a wrap-around design. The AMG Sport Seats are upholstered in Nappa leather and comes with memory function and seat heating/cooling ventilation. A new 3-spoke steering wheel from AMG is used for the car and is wrapped in perforated leather. A high-resolution TFT color AMG instrument cluster is used and displays the 2 round dials. The center console houses the touchpad and makes it easier to browse through the radio, telephone and navigation system.
Providing power to S63 AMG Coupe 4MATIC is a 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 that generates 585 PS at 5500 rpm and 900 Nm of torque at 2250 – 3750 rpm. It is connected to a AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed gearbox and runs on the company's 4MATIC AWD system. It can go from 0 – 97 km/h in 3.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 299 km/h.
An added feature for the S63 AMG Coupe is the AIRMATIC air suspension that comes standard on the car. It has the ADS PLUS adaptive damping system, a higher camber, bigger anti-roll bars and a stiffer subframe carrier on the rear axle.
