Mercedes-Maybach combines retro and modernity in all-new concept
After teasing the motoring public with several teasers, Mercedes-Mahybach has officially revealed the Vision 6 Concept ahead of the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Élegance. Billed by the automaker as the “ultimate in luxury”, the 2+2 luxury coupe blends retro-modern styling with the latest in-car tech.
Measuring 5,600mm long, the Vision 6 concept is marginally longer than any luxury vehicle in production today. Contradicting its sheer length is its conservative height as the all-new concept only stands at 1,328mm. With it however, the designers were able to highlight the car's flowing lines and unique shape.
According to the automaker, the idea behind the Vision 6 Concept's look is comprised of emotional (Hot) and intelligent details (Cool). In addition, the all-new concept harkens back to the aero coupes of yesteryear thanks to the long hood, low roof line and sleek-looking rear.
Up front, the signature Mercedes-Maybach grill has been slightly tweaked and takes styling cues inspried from pinstripe suits. Towards the side, muscular wheel arches, the sloping roofline and 'boat-tail' rear further highlight the car's uncanny profile. Rounding up the exterior décor of the Vision6 Concept include the: gullwing doors, split rear glass window and the 24-inch aero wheels derived from an earlier concept called the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile.
While the exterior blends classic and modern shapes, the cabin of the Vision 6 concept takes on a more futuristic design. As the dashboard seamlessly flows onto the door trim, the company was able to create a 360-degree lounge-like interior. The sculpted seats are upholsted in high-quality leather while the ambient lighting provides a cool finish to the futuristic cabin.
Also worth noting is the fully digital windshield which can display driver-related data, navigation and other geographical information. Manipulating the screen can be done via hand gestures which comes as standard on the concept. The car even has body sensor displays which can scan and monitor a passenger's vital functions. This information will then be used by the car to specifically set the climate control, massage function, and ambient lighting for a more personalized riding experience.
At the heart of the Vision 6 Concept are four permanent magnet synchronus electric motors which drive all four wheels. With it, the Vision 6 Concept has a total system output of 748 PS. 0 – 100 km/h comes in at less than four seconds while top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Estimated maximum range of the Vision 6 Concept is rated at more than 500km thanks to a 80kW battery pack.
A quick-charge function can extend the concept's range by up to 100km in just five minutes. The system uses DC charging which allows up to 350 kW. Charging it can be done via a cable or wireless by way of an electromagnetic field.
The Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Concept will make its public debut on August 21, 2016.
