One ticket to rule them all

Members of the Metro Manila Council, the governing body behind the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, voted unanimously to implement a single ticketing system, thereby unifying traffic violations, penalties and fines within the confines of Metro Manila.

The MMC's resolution came after a dialogue with Sec. Jesse Robredo of the DILG. The single ticketing system will be sent to President Aquino for final approval.

Currently, several local government units have their own ticketing systems with their own fines on top of the MMDA's own ticketing system, running against the MMDA's 1995 charter that gives them the power to have a single ticketing system. If approved, the LGUs will consolidate their scheme of apprehension, standardize fines, penalties, and the redemption of driver’s licenses or license plates.

The Metro Manila Council is composed of the 17 local government units and the 17 respective mayors: Mayor Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. (Mandaluyong City), Mayor Vergel A. Aguilar (Las Pinas City), Mayor Alfredo S. Lim (City of Manila), Mayor Herbert M. Bautista (Quezon City), Mayor Jejomar Binay, Jr. (Makati City), Mayor Jaime C. Medina (Municipality of Pateros), Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian (Valenzuela City), Mayor Guia S. Gomez (Municipality of San Juan), Mayor Robert C. Eusebio (Pasig City), Mayor Aldrin L. San Pedro (Muntinlupa City), Mayor Del De Guzman (Marikina City), Mayor John Rey M. Tiangco (Municipality of Navotas), Mayor Laarni L. Cayetano (Taguig City), Mayor Antonino G. Calixto (Pasay City) and Mayor Canuto S. Oreza (Malabon City)
