Mazda's flagship to get a wagon to the lineup

Along with the new Mazda2, Berjaya Auto Philippines has previewed the updated Mazda6 and unveils the new 6 wagon at this year's Manila International Auto Show. The flagship sedan gets a refreshed exterior and an updated on board computer.

According to Mazda, the updated 6 “adds some tantalising new Brand evolving highlights to the award-winning KODO design and ultra-efficient lightweight SKYACTIV Technology”. Also new to the 6 is MZD Connect smartphone connectivity system.

The updated exterior features chrome slats running the width of the grill and its headlights are now powered by LED with a sharper light signature. The updates done to the sedan also apply to the new wagon as well as the addition of a new color called Sonic Silver. Both models will ride on darkened 19 inch wheels.

Inside, the center console has been redesigned to make way for its new on board computer. The 7 inch screen is now placed on top for the dash and is controlled via the rotary wheel and replacing the traditional handbrake has been replaced with an electronic parking brake. The new 6 is trimmed with polished aluminum look inserts and an addition of soft touch materials. Mazda said the seats on the updated 6 offer better hold and comfort with its enhanced structure and vibration materials. Both front occupants get power seats with 8 way adjustment for the driver and a 6 way adjustment for the passenger.

Mazda added practicality by inserting in more stowage in the center console and larger door pockets. Mazda claims class leading trunk capacity with 480 liters for the sedan and 522 liters for the wagon. With the seats folded down, the 6 Wagon gets as much as 1,664 liters of cargo space.

The Mazda6 Wagon

Housed in Mazda's new on board computer is the MZD Connect system. This infotainment system relies on a smartphone's bluetooth system and has the ability to read e-mails and SMS functions with hands free functionality. The new on board computer also displays vhicle information such as the fuel economy monitor, maintenance reminders and warning guidance.

Both sedan and wagon models are powered by a 2.5 liter Skyactiv-G engine with direct injection. The SkyActiv-G motor puts out 187 PS and 290 Nm of toruqe and is paired with a six speed automatic transmission. Mazda's i-ELOOP stop-start system is also standard on both sedan and wagon variants.

There are currently no confirmed prices for the updated Mazda 6 sedan. However, Mazda Philippines said that the 6 Wagon will be priced around Php 1,800,000.
