The 2017 CX-5 still follows the Kodo design philosophy of the brand but has given the car a sharper, more aggressive look. At the front, the headlights have been slimmed down and are now integrated into the grill. It also comes with LED daytime running lights. Speaking of its grill, it retains its hexagonal shape but now boasts of a honeycomb design.

On to its side, it has it has three character lines seen by the window, fenders and lower half of the doors. Its shoulder line meanwhile extends from the car's window sills, giving it a broader look. Meanwhile, the roofline gently sweeps downwards while the window line slightly curves upwards to form the reverse-kinked third window.
