Volkswagen unveils their biggest van yet
Last month, Volkswagen Philippines announced their plans for 2017. The plans included a range of new vehicles and variants to be introduced to the country within the year. One of these models is the Crafter.
The Crafter comes from Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicle lineup and is the largest van the automaker offers. It measures a whopping 6,940 mm long, 1,993 mm wide, 2,705 mm tall with a wheelbase of 4,325 mm. Volkswagen's biggest van follows the European van format with its engine up front, rather than under the seat as seen in Japanese vans. For passenger ingress, the Crafter has a single sliding door on its side and dutch doors at the rear. Lastly, the Crafter rides on 235/65 R16 tires.
Inside, there is seating for nine with for rows of seats available. Speaking of its seats, these are trimmed in leatherette while the rest of the interior gets comfort side trim panels with fabric inserts. Aside from the generous cargo area, the Crafter also comes with overhead storage bins, boosting practicality. Keeping the passengers cool is air-conditioning vents for all rows of seats.
Under the hood of the Crafter is Volkswagen's 2.0-liter Bi-TDI engine. It benefits from two turbochargers, as well as direct injection. With this engine, the Crafter's turbodiesel engine produces 163 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It then sends its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. For longer range, the Crafter is equipped with a 100 liter fuel tank.
The Volkswagen Crafter starts at Php 3,000,000. The customized version at MIAS is already spoken for, though indicative price for that level of customization is around PhP 4,000,000.
