Manila International Auto Show began with a vision and a dream: to put up a world-class exhibition venue for the Philippine automotive industry. When the MIAS doors opened in 2005, featuring 15 brands spread over 6,000 square meters, more than 50,000 visitors flocked to the World Trade Center to experience the excitement only an auto show can provide.

Our response to this enthusiasm was to increase the value for visitors and exhibitors alike. Each year since then, MIAS has welcomed more than 70,000 visitors. In 2009, MIAS occupies nearly 20,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibitions, making it the biggest annual motoring event in the Philippines.

MIAS 2009's theme is "Passion for Performance," with a dual thrust. The first is to highlight car and equipment performance in terms of driving pleasure and fuel economy. The second is to boost industry sales performance with a well-attended selling event. MIAS 2009 is a proponent of sales success for the Philippine auto industry, which projects a target of 2 to 4 percent growth for the year.

Guinness World Record holder in precision driving Russ Swift returns with a thrilling show behind the wheel of the all-new Subaru Impreza sedan and WRX STI. More activities are in store for the entire family, with contests, raffles, and test drives aplenty. With forty brands exhibiting at the Main Hall, there has never been a better time to experience the excitement of automobiles.

Following the success of 2008's premiere Custom Classic Car Competition, MIAS 2009 follows it up with a new edition. The MIAS Custom Classic Car Competition features a multitude of customized and restored vehicles, all vying for the coveted "Best in Show" award. This MIAS Custom Classic Car Competition is housed at the world-class tent pavilion adjacent to the World Trade Center's Main Hall. Aftermarket accessories, magazines and other automotive merchandise can also be seen and purchased at the tent pavilion.

Five years represents an entire model cycle in automotive terms. For Manila International Auto Show, now in its fifth year, the passion and the enthusiasm for all things automotive is just beginning.

What to expect in this year's Manila International Auto Show?

MIAS Custom Classic Car Competition

The Manila International Auto Show in cooperation with Team Lightspeed conducts its second installment of the MIAS Custom Classic Car Competition. MIAS began holding formal custom and classic car competitions last year, and the response has been overwhelming. So it is not surprising to see thirty-something year old car aficionados owning and competing classic cars several years older than them.

Coming in various shapes and sizes, from coupes to four-door sedans, to pick-ups and mini-cars, restorers and collectors alike vie for this year's major and minor awards with its overall winner dubbed as "Best of Show". Other major categories include Best in Paint, Best in Interior and Best Engine Display.

EMMA Sound Competition

Now on its second year, EMMA Philippines holds another round of mobile sound competitions and training seminars in MIAS 2009. The European Mobile Media Association (EMMA) was initially founded to create a level playing field for sound quality competitions in Europe and to unify the varying and confusing rulebooks that were used all over continental Europe.

Soon after, EMMA formed international affiliates by conducting and supervising organized international head judge training, consolidating the standardized rulebook and competition CD sound materials to be used by affiliates formed in various countries. Furthermore, EMMA provided the training platform for both competitors and installers to extend their knowledge about the equipment they were using. This will then result in a better quality standard for the installations and ensures the equipment will perform to its optimum.

Subaru Russ Swift Precision Driving

Russ Swift is a name synonymous with his Guinness record breaking maneuver in the fastest donut spin and also holds two more records in the tightest J-turn and parallel parking in two seconds flat. On BBC's Top Gear, he even taught a few grandmothers on how to do the donut maneuver in a TV appearance. He also won four British Autotest Championships and an International Rally in Sweden. Swift made his amazing performing stunt driving debut with his famous Austin Montego commercial in 1988.

Last year, Russ Swift thrilled the audience with his signature two-wheeled stunts, donut spins and tight parallel parking maneuvers as he displayed his theatrical antics behind the wheel of several Subaru Imprezas, culminating in his worldwide debut behind the wheel of the WRX STI. This year, Russ Swift gets behind the WRX STI once more as well as the all-new Impreza WRX sedan.
