MMDA watches out for rock throwers

Imagine mindlessly driving along EDSA, having successfully navigated through the infinite number of potholes along the way and avoided getting creamed by buses, trucks and other public utility vehicles only to get slammed by a falling rock in an underpass.

A falling rock?!

Yes, apparently that is a possibility and in fact a reality for some drivers who’ve had their windshields smashed and vehicles damaged by mischievous people who find throwing rocks from atop underpasses to be a hobby.

Well their days are numbered as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has finally decided to get strict with these ‘rock hoodlums’ and intensify their watch in Quezon City, Mandaluyong and other locations where this act may occur.

Traffic constables have been instructed by MMDA Traffic Discipline Office director Crisanto Saruca to be on the lookout for malicious looking individuals who seem like the type to throw rocks over.

The MMDA has also began installing CCTV cameras near underpasses and are also working with the Mandaluyong and Quezon City police in order to nip this act in the bud.  MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino has even announced plans of putting up wire mesh fences atop underpasses just to deter stone throwing.
