New office replaces shoddy makeshift hut
Outgoing Metropolitan Manila Developement Authority (MMDA) Chairman Atty. Emerson Carlos is leaving the agency with a better system for motorists to transact with the different accredited towing companies.
Carlos also inaugurated a new and more convenient towing redemption center located inside the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
This will replace the old shoddy ‘nipa huts’ that served as a makeshift MMDA redemption center in the past.
The new towing redemption center has eight rooms and is now fully air-conditioned to make the official transactions between towing companies and erring motorists more comfortable.
35 towing companies will use the new redemption center with each room being occupied by four towing companies.
“Dati kapag nagbayad ‘yong mga na-tow, parang pupunta lang sa inuman. ‘Yong mga kubo may bangko tapos may mesang kawayan. Ngayon may cubicles na, may aircon pa,” said MMDA chairman Emerson Carlos.
[Before when drivers paid for the penalty fees, it only looked like they were headed to a drinking sesseion. The huts had benches and a bamboo table. Now they have cubicles and its air-conditioned.]
The agency plans to auction off impounded vehicles that have been neglected and left behind to make more space at the impounding station.
