No road works from December 15 – January 3, 2016, MMDA
In order to ease the heavy traffic conditions that will most certainly get worse with the Christmas rush, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will order the suspension all road diggings, excavations and repairs for three weeks beginning on the midnight of December 14, 2015 until the midnight of January 3, 2016.
There are currently 146 road projects all around Metro Manila undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) according to MMDA Traffic Engineering Center Director Noemi Recio.
“If we can stop these projects, we are hopeful that traffic in the Metro Manila would not be that heavy and would somehow ease the burden of shoppers during the Holidays rush,” said Recio.
Exempted from the suspension are ‘flagship projects’ of the administration which includes the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Elevated expressway, Skyway Stage 3 project, Bluementritt Interceptor project and road repairs that do not obstruct or block vehicular traffic.
Private contractors of local government units (LGUs) that violate the order will be fined a minimum of Php 3,000 but not more than Php 10,000 or imprisonment of not less than 30 days but not more than six months.
“Aside from stopping the excavation, the MMDA will also direct the violators to patch up the diggings so that motorists could use them,” added Recio.
