Two variants for the Philippine market
Motor Image, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Asia region, officially took the wraps off the all-new 2013 Forester for the public to see at the 2013 Manila International Auto Show. Motor Image Pilipinas will be offering two variants locally, the 2.0i-L base and the 2.0XT turbocharged model.
The all-new 2013 Forester will be Subaru's fourth-generation compact SUV and has been slowly evolving into a more capable SUV and is now introduced with Subaru's X-MODE all-wheel drive control system.
When asked about the possible conflict between the Subaru Forester and the XV, Subaru's senior project manager, Ryuji Nojiri, made it clear in an interview that the XV will be more of a crossover for the city while the Forester will be the more capable and sporty compact SUV that you can bring to more tougher terrains.
“With the strong demand for SUVs in the Asian region, I’m confident that the all-new Forester will continue to be a popular choice amongst discerning consumers who are looking for enjoyment and a peace of mind,” said Mr. Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International Limited.
Exterior design and dimensions
The next-generation Forester features a tamer looking exterior design that's in-line with the current design language of the Subaru brand. It can be greatly noticed with its front grille, headlamp, and tail lamp design that has similarities with the Impreza and the XV.
On the turbocharged 2.0XT, air ducts under the hood sucks air through the front grille in place of the hood scoop found on the outgoing Forester. It also features a more aggressive looking bumper, chrome trim accents, and a power sunroof.
The new Forester now measures 4,595mm x 1,795mm x 1,735mm(LxWxH) making it slightly bigger than the outgoing model.
Interior design and features
At an exclusive launch-party held before the public launch, Ryuji Nojiri, Subaru's senior project manager for the fourth generation Forester highlighted its new features like the chain type Lineartronic-CVT and the X-MODE all-wheel drive control system which comes as standard for both variants.
The 2.0XT meanwhile gets additional features like the keyless access with push button start system, power rear tailgate, leather seat materials, 18-inch alloy wheels, high-grade multi-function display, and an 8-speaker audio system by harman/kardon.
The next generation Subaru Forester is equipped with Subaru's 2.0 boxer engine and gives off a power rating of 150PS and 198Nm of torque for the naturally aspirated 2.0i-L while the turbocharged 2.0XT Forester has a maximum output 240PS and 350Nm of torque. Both variant's powerplants are coupled to a chain type Lineartronic CVT for a more efficient operation.
Safety and security
The Forester is packed with safety features as standard for both variants with 6 SRS airbags (front, side, and curtain), ABS with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist system, hill start assist and hill descent control.
Maximum visibility is also ensured with automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers, daytime running lights and auto on/off headlamps together with front and rear fog lamps.

Motor Image Pilipinas will be offering two variants of the Forester, the 2.0i-L base variant and the 2.0XT which are priced competitively at PhP1.398,000 and PhP1,868,000 respectively.
