Hyundai's Volunteer Program moves to the Philippines, re-builds villages in Valenzuela City
Harnessing the power of the youth, the said program aims to foster societal transformation and positively influence the young generation to be more sensitive towards others as they set out to help shape communities into healthy, growing locations for sustainability-one of Hyundai's strongest advocacies. Each year since the summer of 2008, a total of 1,000 student volunteers from South Korean universities are dispatched to various locations every year. Since its launch, 3,000 volunteers have already enlisted in the program, including those that will be dispatched winter of this year.
In partnership with Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official Philippine distributor of Hyundai, Hyundai Motor Company will bring in sixty student volunteers from various universities in South Korea who will devote their time, energy, and inspiration for a two-weeklong program inclusive of build and renovation activities at Pinalagad Village and Dulong Tangke Village in Barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City, Manila, to help impoverished families start rebuilding their lives anew this 2011. For Pinalagad Village, the program aims to build 10 houses for the most underprivileged families and renovate and extend the toilets of Pinalagad Elementary School, as well as conduct a hygiene awareness educational campaign for the students. For Dulong Tangke Village, volunteers will build a cement access road to the village and install public toilets to promote a more hygienic environment.
A mini Olympics composed of friendly sporting events is also slated simultaneous to volunteering to foster teamwork, fun, and camaraderie among the Korean youth volunteers and students from Philippine universities in Manila. The said event also serves as a venue for cultural exchange and understanding of unique traditions among Korean and Philippine youth.
Moving on to new beginnings this year, Hyundai Motor Company and Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. take their drive to another level-that of celebrating life and seeking to make others happy via volunteerism to provide others a fresh new start for a better future.
