Initial phase connects Terminals 1, 2 to Macapagal Avenue
Motorists headed to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 1 and 2 now have a faster route to take instead of using the circuitous way through Tramo.
Keeping up with the promise to open on time, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar led the official opening of the NAIA Expressway Phase 2A at 12:01AM, September 22, 2016.
This newly opened elevated expressway connects motorists to NAIA Terminals 1 and 2 from Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City. This effectively adds a faster route instead of going through the highly congested Aurora Boulevard, Airport Road, Domestic Road and NAIA Road.
The DPWH estimates that the opening of the NAIA Expressway Phase 2A will greatly improve traffic flow in the area while reducing travel time to Terminals 1 and 2 by 60-percent.
Use of NAIA Expressway Phase 2A will be toll-free starting today until October 22, 2016, but signs indicating the toll charges have been installed and they are as follows: Class 1 – Php 35, Class 2 – Php 69 and Class 3 – Php 104.
While the Php 20.45-billion NAIA Expressway project is far from complete, Villar promises that the section connecting the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 will be open before Christmas 2016.
"The Duterte administration is conscious of delivering its promise. We will set deadlines and contractors would have to abide," said Villar.
