2016 Acura NSX will be 'A New Sports Experience'
After debuting as a concept during the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Acura has finally announced that the 2016 NSX will make its production-ready premiere at the 2015 NAIAS on January 12 in Detroit, Michigan.
“After three years of intensive development work we are excited to reveal this next-generation supercar the Acura NSX to the world. We’ve developed a human-centered supercar that responds to the will of the driver and that builds upon the NSX heritage,” said Ted Klaus, Chief Engineer and Global Project Leader over NSX development.
Prior to its debut for next year's NAIAS, Acura has also released several teaser images along with a video that showcases the exterior design of the car, as well as the sound of its engine.
Up front, it has a vented hood, a low-mounted grill and LED headlights of that resemble the ones found on the Honda CR-Z. On the side it has wide front and rear fenders and NSX branded calipers that sit behind black alloy wheels. At the back it has an integrated spoiler and tapered taillights.
As previously reported, providing power to the NSX will be a rear mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 that is paired with three electric motors, driving all four wheels. No engine specifications have been provided by Acura.
“The next-generation NSX will deliver a ‘new sports experience’ true to its heritage and to the supercar concept that originally gave rise to the name NSX. The NSX will serve as the ultimate expression of Acura performance that is fueling a reenergized brand,” said Mike Accavitti, Acura Division Senior Vice President and General Manager.
The 2016 Acura NSX will be produced exclusively at the company's new Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio and will be built with globally and locally sourced parts.
Last September during the 5th Philippine International Motor Show, Honda Cars Philippines surprised attendants as they revealed the Honda NSX Concept along with a 2013-spec Super Formula Race Car.
