Tweaked exterior, refined interior debut in 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz rolls out a slew of improvements on their smallest SUV in time for this year's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Having been in the market for two years or so, this mid-cycle refresh brings new features to the interior as well as a few tweaks for its aesthetics.

The most prominent change comes in the form of a revised front fascia. The GLA takes on the curvier, more organic face we’ve previously seen on the C-Class and the rest of the Mercedes lineup. The rear fascia also gets a minor retouch, with black plastic trim around the exhausts giving the GLA a more aggressive profile.

Exterior changes are rounded up by a new set of wheels for both standard and option specifications. Finally, the new Canyon Beige exterior (pictured) gives the GLA a rather grown-up feel to its exterior.

The interior receives majority of the changes for the refresh. A high resolution 8-inch display comes standard along with a new instrument cluster as well as a backup sensor. Infotainment also includes Android Auto smartphone integration as well. The rest of the interior is then re-trimmed with black ashe matte wood trim that replaces the outdated burl walnut trim.

Performance from the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder remains the same. Rated at 208PS with 349 Nm of torque, power is delivered to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. For those that need more power out of the GLA, the GLA45 AMG is also available in refreshed guise. Its 2.0-liter turbo inline-four is rated at 375PS with 474 Nm of torque, with its top speed limited to 255 km/h.

The updated GLA45 comes with a new rotary knob, an ‘M’ button for manual mode, and the option of black, red and black, or silver AMG trim to go with the GLA45’s already aggressive profile.
