New flagship supercar set for debut in fall 2014
Mercedes-Benz's new supercar is poised for launch later this year - and the Stuttgart-based manufacturer wants you to pay attention.
The company released interior shots of its Mercedes-AMG GT, the much-awaited successor to the SLS AMG, at its afterparty at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
“Following the global success of the SLS AMG, the new GT is the second sports car developed fully independently by Mercedes-AMG. A first exclusive look at the design of the interior shows what is in store for our customers: a GT sports car in its purest form,” AMG chief executive officer Tobias Moers said in a press release.
Mercedes-Benz said the car has an ‘aviation design’ theme, particularly the round air-con vents that look like the dials on a fighter jet.
The center console, which incorporates the AMG Drive Unit, has four buttons arranged on each side of the gear stick. The company said this makes the console look “like the cylinders of a V8 engine.”
Notions of power and flying aside, what is clear from the shots is the gorgeous, red-and-black leather interior with exposed stitching.
Piano-black and brushed aluminum trims are tastefully spread all around too.
Another notable feature is the large screen that pops out of the dashboard, something we’ve all seen in the new S-Class and C-Class sedans.
