Making a difference
Five years ago, Ms. Elizabeth H. Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Universal Motors Corporation, brought forth an idea that helped not just her company but one that gave a spark of hope to fellow Filipinos. Little did she know, with this simple idea of "giving", she will be destined to create a life-changing crusade - the "Ur Van, Ur Business" (UVUB) program.
The Ur Van, Ur Business program is the automotive industry's first Entrepreneurship-Corporate Social Responsibility program that directly ties up vehicle marketing with providing livelihood to struggling families. UVUB targets individuals who are actively seeking for viable means to supplement their income for a better way of living for them and their families.
So far the program has helped 5,600 families and created 7,000 direct jobs, with the numbers continuing to grow with the help of its nationwide Nissan Dealerships, media friends, and loyal Nissan Urvan owners whom UMC fondly call "The Urvanites"
The program has since evolved from its inception in 2006 to include Ipadala Mo Negsyo targeting Overseas Filipino Workers, supported the plight of OFWs in helping their families here in the Philippines make the most of their remittances, and Asenso Negosyo Academy or ANA where periodic seminars were conducted to impart necessary knowledge and skills to ensure the continuance and success of Nissan Urvan businesses.
Together with her entire Marketing Team, UMC remain committed to embrace the advocacy guided by a shared principle in life, "to make a difference in other people's lives". As Ms. Lee puts it, "We realized we have the capability and the responsibility to position our products not just to sell them but to use it as a vessel to aid, uplift, and support those who have less in life."
UMC's vision is to uplift the lives of as many Filipinos as possible and be a catalyst in the realization of every Filipino's entrepreneurial dream for a more developed and productive society.
