Peugeot aims for the C-segment crossover market
Peugeot has officially revealed the completely redesigned 2017 5008 at this year's Paris Motor Show.
The French marque has gone for a different direction for the all-new 5008. They have replaced the MPV look of the current model and has now billed it as a seven-seater crossover. Peugeot said that their goal is to pursue the brand's up-market strategy as well as to be the top in the C-segment seven-seater crossover.
The 2017 Peugeot 5008 uses the brand's new design language similar to the 2017 3008. Its front fascia gets a new wraparound headlights, a larger grill, and a lower air intake. Aside from these, it is also fitted with new 'lion' claw taillights previously applied on the 3008.
Sizewise, the second-generation 5008 retains the same 1,640 mm height including its roof rails. However, it is now lengthier at 4,640 mm compared to the previous 5008 which measured 4,530 mm long. On the other hand, platform-wise, it now sits on the brand's new EMP2 modular architecture applied on the new 3008 and 308.
Its interior features the new i-Cockpit design which consists of a more compact steering wheel, 12.3-inch digital multi-information display and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also present are the reworked aircon vents, center console, new metal trim pieces, electronic parking brake, new gear lever and soft-touch controls for the climate control system.
Other amenities that will be available in the 2017 5008 are: multi-point massaging system, Focal Premium audio system, panoramic glass roof, Mirror Screen function and 3D connected navigation. It also has second row seats which can be folded individually allowing better seating and cargo configuration. Meanwhile, the third row seats can be folded or even removed for a bigger luggage space.
The new 5008 will be made available in a 1.2 liter engine, a 1.6 liter engine, and a 2.0 liter engine. The 1.2 liter engine produces an output of 130 PS mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The 1.6 liter engine produces an output of 120 PS and 165 PS. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter diesel engine offered in automatic and manual is rated at 150 PS or 180 PS.
Also included are the hill assist descent control (HADC), automatic emergency braking system (AEBS), active lane keeping assist (LKA), park assist and adaptive cruise control as such.
