Free service check-ups prepare motorists for Holy Week travel

For the 22nd consecutive year this Holy Week, oil industry leader Petron Corporation will once again stage its Lakbay Alalay program as part of its public service during the annual exodus of motorists from Metro Manila to the provinces.

Participating Petron Service Stations will offer free service checks on tire pressure, oil and radiator water level, and brakes inspection from February 24 to March 23. Motorists are encouraged to avail of the free safety checks to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy for worry-free travel.

From Holy Wednesday (March 19) until Easter Sunday (March 23), Petron Lakbay Alalay will offer free roadside assistance inside the major tollways including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Star Tollway, and Coastal Road.

The Petron Lakbay Alalay program offers free minor car repairs, first aid, emergency phone calls, radiator water, and Treats bottled water. Radio traffic reports courtesy of Petron will also keep motorists informed about driving conditions.

Motorists who wish to avail of Petron Lakbay Alalay services may visit any of the participating Petron Service Stations along the major toll roads. These include two stations and two base camps on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), one station and one base camp on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), one station on the Star Tollway, and two base camps on the Coastal Road.

Petron Lakbay Alalay has become a tradition for Petron employees during the Lenten break and is the longest-running motorist assistance program in the country. For the past 22 years, Petron employee-volunteers have participated in the activity as a manifestation of the company's call for "Volunteerism in Action" .

This pioneering motorist assistance program, which provides free mechanical help, communications support, medical services, clean restrooms and other services, is now being replicated by other automotive and oil companies. In fact, the term "Lakbay Alalay" is being used in daily terminology as a generic term for motorist assistance activities, not realizing that this is a registered trademark of Petron Corporation.

Lakbay Alalay 2008 is presented in partnership with Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), Tollways Management Corporation (TMC), Philippine National Construction Corporation (PNCC), Skyway Operations and Management Corporation (SOMCO), STAR Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDC), and Public Estates Authority Tollways Corporation (PEATC). Other partners include: Philippine National Red Cross, Kia Motors, Ibero Asistencia, and TGI Friday's.
