EDI to launch 208 GTI hot hatch and Expert Tepee van soon

Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (EDI), official distributor of Peugeot in the Philippines held the sneak preview of its upcoming models, the 208 GTI and Expert Tepee van at the 9th Auto Focus Motor Show. The two models are expected to be launched in the local market by Q1 of 2014.

The Peugeot 208 GTI has been touted as the modern day version of the venerable 205 GTI which spawned the 205 T16 Group B rally car in the 80’s driven by rally greats Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen, and Timo Salonen. The 3-door 208 GTI hatchback is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine capable of 200 PS @ 5800rpm and 275 Nm of torque at 1,700 rpm, mated to a six speed manual transmission.

To pay tribute to the 205 T16, Peugeot developed a 208 T16 to challenge the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb powered by a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produced 887 PS. The car was fielded in the 2013 edition of the famous event to challenge the record time set by Rhys Millen in 2012. Multi-awarded World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb piloted the 208 T16 to victory shattering Millen’s 9:46.164 record by setting a new fastest time of 8:13:878.

The Expert Tepee will be positioned against the Hyundai Starex, Kia Carnival, Toyota Previa and Toyota Hiace Super Grandia. The Expert Tepee is based on Peugeot’s reliable Expert series commercial vans, it measures at 5143mm long, 2176mm wide, 1980mm tall; with a 3122mm wheelbase. It will seat up to 8 people, while the third row is removable to accommodate more cargo at the expense of 3 passengers. The van will be powered by a 2.0-liter HDI FAP engine, with peak power of 163 PS and 340 Nm peak torque, paired with most likely a six-speed automatic transmission.

While EDI hasn’t revealed official pricing of the upcoming models, the Expert Tepee van was hinted to be priced just a little over Php2-Million, while the 208 GTI is expected to hover around the PhP1.9-Million to Php2-Million range.
