HPG to only take photo of errant buses on EDSA
As the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) continues to fine-tune its traffic duties and responsibilities on EDSA, they are set to try out a new ploy, 'no contact' apprehension of public utility buses (PUBs) on the entire stretch of EDSA.
According to PNP-HPG Director Chief Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao, policemen assigned on EDSA will take photos of buses and their license plate numbers when caught committing a violation.
Instead of pulling the big vehicles to the side for the ticketing process, which may cause traffic in the process, the tickets will just be sent to the bus operator and the entire process coordinated with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Aside from not causing traffic, this process – according to the PNP-HPG – lessens the chances of bribery and extortion.
The PNP-HPG will also start issuing traffic violation receipts (TVRs) from the LTO for violations committed by drivers on EDSA.
