QC, MMDA and LTFRB sign agreement to remove illegal bus terminals

As good as all these various routes included in the Mabuhay Lanes are, the whole point is moot if somewhere along the way, massive buses clog up the flow of traffic because they’re maneuvering in, or out, of their ‘terminal’ or loading and unloading passengers.

Aside from its negative effect on the multi-lane EDSA, it is much worse on single lane roads that were supposed to be alternate routes to declog main roads in Metro Manila.

Well one city in the metro finally said enough is enough.

Quezon City has just signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to eliminate illegal terminals in the city, whether on EDSA or secondary roads.

QC Mayor Herbert Bautista even went as far as warning operators of permanent closure should they continue using illegal terminals in the city.

"Land always has use. Condominiums and other business establishments could be built on the (land occupied by) illegal bus terminals," said Bautista.

To assist bus operators, the mayor and his administration will even recommend a standard design for bus terminals in order for them to have a positive effect on traffic flow.

QC Business Permit and Licensing Office chief Garry Domingo went as far as saying that only compliant bus terminals will be issued bus permits and warned all buses to strictly adhere to the nose-in, nose-out policy.
