Lap time record of 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds
Last April, Renault Sport launched the #Under8 campaign and vowed to set a new lap record at the 2014 Nurburgring.
The automaker stood to its promise as the Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R special edition managed to add a third lap record at Nurburgring’s legendary Nordscheife to its list of achievements.
Renault established records with Megane R26.R in 2008 and Megane R.S. Trophy in 2011, but the engineers at Renault Sport were not content as the Megane R.S. posted a new lap time of 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds.
Compared to the standard RS 275 Trophy, the R version is almost 100 kg lighter because the rear seats were removed as well as most of the sound-absorbing and insulating materials. The automaker also equipped the R version with a smaller battery and lighter Recaro bucket seats. Furthermore, the radio and the air conditioning system were also removed.
The Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R has a black roof along with a white colored body paint finish. It has a checkered flag graphic at the bottom of the front doors and an F1-type front blade with a Trophy-R text. Rounding up the exterior of the vehicle are the 19-inch rims.
It is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 275 PS with 360 Nm of torque. The Trophy-R is fitted with standard cup chassis and has a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, adjustable Ohlins Road and Track dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and 350 mm disc brakes.
