Aston Martin will be releasing a crossover to avoid future money woes

Speculations about a future Aston Martin crossover may be true as company CEO Andy Palmer recently told Automotive News Europe that they will indeed release one in the near future.

Palmer did not state much of the details but he said that it will ride on a newly-developed platform that will be shared with an upcoming sedan as well as an unknown third model. They will sit alongside existing nameplates which will use a new sports car architecture. It will be released some time in 2019.

Interestingly though, the automaker has already released the DBX concept (pictured above) which looks like a preview of their future crossover but Aston Martin billed the concept vehicle as a high-end luxury GT car.

The Aston Martin Rapide

When asked why the company decided to develop a crossover, he simply stated that it is a means of avoiding future bankruptcies.

“In the first century we went bankrupt seven times, the second century is about making sure that is not the case,” stated Palmer.

In addition, Palmer also said that an all-electric version of the 4-door Rapide is possible and may be rated to produce 1013 PS.
