US market should expect a new high-performance variant of the Civic
The US-spec 2016 Honda Civic could be offered with a Type R engine based on reports circulating around the web.
MotoryRacing said sources close to Honda have confirmed that a major update is coming for the US-spec Civic. Part of the major update is Honda's plan to fit the turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine of the Civic Type R to a performance model for the United States market.
The report adds that the said engine would not be fitted to the US-spec 2015 Honda Civic Si. The US market should expect a new high-performance variant of the Civic by 2016.
As a review, the Euro-spec Honda Civic Type-R that debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine from the company's Earth Dreams Technology series. It delivers over 280 PS and the engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
