Rolls-Royce releases first images of Cullinan in heavy camouflage

Rolls-Royce's upcoming 'all-terrain, high-sided vehicle' continues to undergo stringent testing before its eventual debut as the luxury marque's first ever SUV. As a way to give customers and enthusiasts a taste of things to come, the Goodwood-based automaker recently released new images of the heavily camouflaged Cullinan.

While still carrying familiar design cues from its sedan siblings, the Cullinan has an increased ride height and has what looks to be a slightly dipped roofline. Up front, the upcoming SUV gets the signature front grill with chrome slats and a raised hood design.

Other details about the car were not revealed but the company did say that they will be conducting cold weather and traction testing on the new SUV after Christmas in the Arctic Circle. By 2017, Rolls-Royce will take the SUV to the Middle East where the SUV will undergo hot weather and desert traction testing.

A close look at the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan

“This is an incredibly exciting moment in the development of Project Cullinan both for Rolls-Royce and for the patrons of luxury that follow us around the world. Bringing together the new four-wheel drive system and the new ‘architecture of luxury’ for the first time sets us on the road to creating a truly authentic Rolls-Royce which, like its forebears, will reset the standard by which all other luxury goods are judged,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

In review, the Cullinan will be one of the automaker's first new vehicles that will be underpinned a new aluminum space-frame. Beside being lighter, Rolls-Royce also said that the new frame will be able to cope better in varying weather conditions, as well as retain the brand's distinct 'magic-carpet ride'.

When launched, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be going against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga which is already on sale.
