Unique Camaro AutoX designed to carve through autocross
Chevrolet recently revealed the new Camaro Turbo AutoX concept at this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. The company claims that the Camaro has a more agile handling that is ideal for autocross enthusiasts.
“This concept pushes Camaro in a new direction, integrating new performance parts that make the most of the turbocharged Camaro’s lightweight dynamics,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
Starting with the exterior, the Camaro Turbo AutoX concept sports a Shock Yellow color accented with Pearl Nickel hood stripes and satin Carbon Flash Metallic accents on the hood vents, rockers, and rear diffuser. The vented hood and front splitter come from the Camaro SS. The rear diffuser and rockers, on the other hand, were borrowed from a Chevrolet Accessories ground effects kit.
In addition, it also has a front tow hook, GoPro camera mount, export side marker lamps, and an all-new, accessory rear spoiler. The AutoX rides on Chevrolet Accessories 20-inch aluminum wheels and Goodyear 285/35R20 performance tires.
Inside, it has a leather-trimmed interior that complements the track-ready functionality, including a suede-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, shift knob and boot, as well as a carbon-fiber instrument panel insert. A bolt-in harness bar mounts a five-point safety harness.
Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.0L turbo engine and a revamped calibration optimizing performance across the rpm band. The turbocharger generates up to 9 kg of boost while its twin-scroll design eliminates turbo lag and helps deliver a broad powerband.
Other amenities include Chevrolet Performance exhaust system, Active Noise Cancellation, short-throw shifter, performance suspension lowering kit, plus performance handling kit, cold-air intake system, and strut tower brace.
The Camaro Turbo AutoX concept was unveiled along with 20 Chevy vehicles and trucks.
