Renaming of roads intends to honor Ninoy, Cory
The Senate has approved House Bill No. 4400 and House Bill No. 4398 which sought to rename two provincial roads after President Benigno Aquino III's parents.
Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr., chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government and sponsor of the bill, said that HBN 4400 intends to rename the circumferential road commencing at the junction of the Iloilo-Dumangas Coastal Road in Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo as the President Corazon C. Aquino Avenue.
On the other hand, Marcos said that HBN 4398 sought to rename the stretch of the national highway along the Iloilo Diversion/Iloilo Capiz Road (old route) as Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue. The said road begins at the junction of General Luna to the airport access road and ends at the gate of the Iloilo International Airport.
Marcos' bill to rename a provincial road after his uncle, former Leyte governor Benjamin 'Kokoy' Romualdez, has also been approved by the Senate. The HBN 1042 called for the naming of the diversion road located in Tacloban City, Leyte as Gov. Benjamin 'Kokoy' Romualdez Diversion Road.
Senate President Franklin Drilon said that the following House Bills were intended to “remind our countrymen of the excellence and sacrifice of distinguished Filipinos, and to inspire them to follow the good example set by such men and women.”
