Bill mandating installation of electronic speed limiters in all public buses filed in Senate
Senator Joseph Victor 'JV' Ejercito has filed Senate Bill 2110 - "An Act Mandating the Installation of Electronic Speed Limiters to all Public Utility buses for the Protection of the Riding Public and for other purposes".
The Senator’s proposal comes after a massive public outrage over the continued recklessness by bus drivers and other public utility vehicle drivers causing deaths of passengers and other motorists. The public has gone as far as initiating online petitions calling on lawmakers to requiring public utility vehicles, particularly buses to install electronic speed limiters in all their vehicles to prevent these accidents.
Congressman Jerry Treñas filed House Bill 3624 in the lower house in December 17, 2013; a day after the a speeding Don Mariano Transit bus fell off Skyway killing 22 people. It was the second on Skyway following a 2011 incident involving Dimple Star Transport, whose bus also fell down the elevated expressway, also due to reckless driving and overspeeding.
A few days ago, another bus operated by GV Florida Transport fell off a cliff in Bontoc, Mountain Province killing 14 passengers, while 32 have been reportedly injured.
