Senator Pia Cayetano wants probe on burning e-jeepney
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) have been ordered by Senator Pia Cayetano to investigate the burning of an e-jeepney last May 13, 2015 along Katipunan Avenue near the UP Town Center.
As the head of the Senate Subcommittee on Sustainable Transportation, Senator Cayetano is concerned about the safety of the commuting public who patronize these e-jeepneys.
Photos of the e-jeepney owned by City Optimized Managed Electric Transport (COMET) went viral hours after the incident.
Conflicting reports have surfaced citing arson allegedly committed by PUV drivers of diesel engine counterparts while the manufacturers have indicated that the e-jeepney simply caught fire on its own.
Cayetano also wants clarification on reports that the e-jeepney that burned down was operating without a franchise.
“Of course, we all love these environment-friendly vehicles, but it doesn't mean they can operate without regulation, especially if there are safety issues,” Cayetano said.
