Lexus premieres the refreshed ES with mild cosmetic updates, new inline-four engine
Lexus has just revealed the updated 2016 ES at this year's Auto Shanghai which features 'an exciting, sportier attitude, highlighted by elegant yet progressive exterior styling' according to the automaker. Described by the company as their best-selling sedan model in their lineup, the updated ES debuts with a new 2.0-liter inline-four along with minor revisions to the exterior and interior.
From the outside, the sedan still carries its distinct shape though the spindle grill at the front is now finished in satin chrome. LED projector headlights now come as standard which are then paired to L-shaped DRLs. Over to the rear, the taillights were given a touch-up to keep up with the L-theme while both the license plate garnish and exhaust tips are finished in chrome.
Other additions that are available for the 2016 facelift are two new 17-inch wheels and four new paint finishes; Amber, Nightfall Mica, Caviar and Eminent White Pearl.
Inside, customers can have there ES upholstered in semi-aniline leather, full leather or in Lexus NuLuxe material; all of which can be had in four different colors, Flaxen, Parchment, Stratus Gray and Black. Further adding to the available list of interior options are four new cabin trims: Illustrious Piano Black, Linear Dark Mocha Wood, Espresso Bird's Eye Maple and Matte Bamboo.
Exclusively available in China, Russia and in Taiwan is the new D4 2.0-liter inline-four engine that features direct-injection. No exact power output has been listed by the automaker however. The U.S. market will still be getting the carried over 3.5-liter V6 and 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain while other markets will get the standard 2.5-liter motor.
“With improved performance, an expanded engine lineup and a quieter and thoroughly luxurious interior wrapped in a freshened chiseled body, the new ES builds efficiently on what has made it one of the most popular luxury sedans in the world, and we are confident that this latest version of the ES will build upon its past successes,” said Toshio Asahi, ES Chief Designer.
Lexus stated that it will arrive in dealerships in the second half 2015.
