2018 Lexus NX to replace '200 t' with NX 300

Originally unveiled in 2014, the Lexus NX was the marque's offer to customers wanting a sporty, luxury crossover. For 2017, Lexus has unveiled the facelifted version of the NX giving it both a slight visual makeover and more technical features.

Though the overall design of the NX still remains the same, the front and rear fascia have both been improved. Starting with the front fascia, the spindle grill has been revised, and now sports a more aggressive look by combining satin and smoked chrome bits.

To go with the updated spindle grill, the bumper has also been updated and now “more fluidly blends into the hood and front door,” Lexus says. As with the redesigned bumper, the fog lights have now been moved to the corner, separate from the ducts. The most obvious change from the previous NX would be the revised headlights which now feature a triple projector elements, and look similar to that of the Lexus LC and RC models.

At the back, the rear bumper has also been redesigned and now features part of the spindle-grill motif giving the NX a lower stance. The tail light garnish now accentuates the L-shaped lenses even more. Beneath that, the exhaust tips have been made larger and into chrome-tipped items and flanks the new rear diffuser. To distinguish the hybrid from the F Sport variant, the hybrid has a satin L-shaped chrome border between the diffuser and bumper.

Inside, there is a larger infotainment display and a new metallic satin finish on the interior bits. The remote interface touchpad has been redesigned and enlarged for better user experience. Meanwhile, the wireless charging tray has also been enlarged to accommodate larger phones and now features faster charging.

The most significant change for the 2018 NX model would be the trim naming, as Lexus is dropping the NX 200t and will be replacing it with the NX 300. The “t” designation was originally used to distinguish turbocharged engines, but has now been dropped since they started rolling out turbocharged engines to other models. Despite the name change, the model still retains the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine while the hybrid continues to use the 2.5-liter engine along with two electric motors.

Aside from the name change, the NX's mechanicals have been updated with the introduction of adaptive variable suspension, based on the one found on the LC 500 coupe. This new suspension is said to give the driver more precise control over the vehicle by improving handling and stability, according to Lexus.
