Subcompact crossover class size comparison
Last month Ford introduced the EcoSport, a subcompact crossover SUV that will represent the brand in a relatively untested segment... or so we thought.
Upon looking at the models available in the market, it seems the EcoSport has quite a bit of competition in terms of size, pricing or even both. Due to popular demand, we have now incorporated a little chart so that you can compare the size of the models side by side.
For your perusal, we included the Suzuki SX4 Crossover, the Mitsubishi ASX, the Suzuki Jimny and the Kia Soul. For the sake of reference, we also included models currently not yet available in the Philippines such as the Suzuki S-Cross, the Chevrolet Trax and the Nissan Juke. One past model is also included, and it's the one that started the crossover craze: the 1995 Toyota RAV4 5-door.
As you can see, the EcoSport fits well into a relatively new class, measuring 4,245mm long, 1,765mm wide, 1,708mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,521mm.
Similarly priced models such as the SX4 Crossover, Soul and Jimny are very comparable in size. The ASX fits there in terms of dimensions, but not for price. Also of interest are the models that have yet-to-arrive such as the S-Cross, Trax and Juke. What's interesting is that the EcoSport, considered to be a subcompact crossover, is larger than the original crossover (the 1995 RAV4 5-door) in all respects
This weekend we will head on over to Hua Hin in Thailand to drive the all-new Ford EcoSport. Watch out for our review of the EcoSport next week.
