We measure up how Kia's next-gen compact car stack up against the competition

If there is a model that any automaker would depend on in raking in huge sales, that would be the compact car.

Aside from the lucrative SUV and subcompact segments, the compact sedan segment will always be a regular staple in every car company's lineup. Essentially made as an everyday automobile that can transport both people and goods from point A to point B, today's compacts now have a more stylish design both inside and outside. The engines are now more refined and technologically advanced as some models benefit from direct injection and even turbocharged aspiration, depending on the variant.

Kia aims to take a portion of this segment as they recently launched the 2015 Forte that is available in three body styles: Sedan, Hatchback and Coupe. For this size up however, we take a look on how the sedan variant will measure up with currently offered compact sedans in the market.

Looking at the figures, the new-generation Forte sits alongside the Elantra, Focus and Civic as one of the few shortest compacts currently available in terms of length. For wideness however, it will be able to offer decent elbow room since it easily edges most of the competition but is only beaten by the Cruze, Focus and Mazda3. Headroom might become a problem though as the other compacts are taller on average.
