Could debut on July 16
Smart has teased the next generation ForTwo and ForFour superminis with their latest video release. It showcases new design cues like a hexagonal grille and a reworked front end.
The upcoming ForTwo will like be based on the ForUs concept which will be about the same length but around 100mm wide than its predecessor.
The 2015 ForFour variant should be loosely based on the FourJoy concept debuted in Frankfurt last year, if dimensions will follow the concept, the upcoming four-seater will be shorter, but wide and taller than its predecessor.
Further options for the Smart Car are daylight running LEDs built into the headlights, rear parking sensors, rearview camera and front bumper turn signals.
Inside, it has a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel and a tachometer that is mounted near the A-pillar.
Development of the upcoming smart cars has been done closely with the Renault Twingo where 70% of the components will be from the latter. With this, engine options may include a 1.0-liter 3 cylinder motor that puts out 70 PS and 91 Nm of torque and a 0.9-liter 3 cylinder turbo-charged motor that is rated at 90 PS and a torque pull of 135 Nm.
Transmission options can either be a 5-speed manual or a dual clutch 6-speed automatic.
Moreover, a Brabus variant is said to be in the works as well as an electric variant. However, the electric variant will not be readily available when it comes out.
