BMW out testing mildly refreshed i3 EV
The all-electric BMW i3 has been in the market for 3 years and while it may look snazzy and funky, it can do with a mild facelift. Well it looks like BMW is doing just that as our spies were able to take pictures of what appeared to be the i3 facelift prototype.
Based on the images, it appears the i3 refresh will have an evolutionary design. As a whole, the EV still somewhat resembles the current model though there are portions of the car that carry apparent changes. For starters, the refreshed i3 prototype gets a reworked front bumper along with reshaped foglights and headlights.
Around the back, the i3 gets a heavy camouflage as well. This could signify that the refreshed model will have a revised rear bumper.
As far as the interior is concerned, BMW may install a new infotainment system that supports the latest in in-car tech and amenities like hand gesture control, Apple CarPlay and Android compatibility and smartphone linking to name a few.
But perhaps the biggest change that will arrive in the i3 is a more powerful variant that will apparently be called the i3S. According to our insiders, it is highly likely that it will have more powerful electric motor which could give it “hot hatch” performance credentials.
The standard version, on the other hand, may receive a slight power bump as well as an extended range.
Both the standard and more powerful i3S may make their world debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
